Lascaux is a cave complex located in southwestern France, renowned for its prehistoric cave paintings. The cave is situated near the village of Montignac and is estimated to have been created around 17,000 years ago during the Upper Paleolithic period. Discovered in 1940 by a group of teenagers, the Lascaux caves contain some of the most remarkable and well-preserved examples of prehistoric art. The cave walls are adorned with intricate paintings of various animals, including horses, deer, aurochs, and predators like lions and bears. The paintings at Lascaux are known for their exceptional quality, attention to detail, and vivid depictions of movement and life.
